The West African side were one of the favourites to win CAN 2008, but bowed out in the last four as eventual winners Egypt thrashed them 4-1 in Kumasi.
Barring young keeper Vincent Angban, every one of the 23 member squad plies their trade in Europe. As many as six players, including the likes of captain Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue play in England. With the amount of talent available at Vahid Halilhodzic’s disposal, it is no surprise that the Elephants are being considered as hot favourites to lift the title this time around. The only notable player missing from the squad is Sevilla’s Romaric.

In any other group, Burkina would have fancied their chances of going through, but being placed in a group that already contains Ivory Coast and Ghana means that the Stallions will have to come up with something spectacular to progress to the next round.
History is also against Burkina Faso- they have gone past Round 1 only once since the inception of this tournament. That was in 1998, when they grabbed fourth place. Moumoni Dagano and Jonathan Pitroipa are two of the several players that must come good for Burkina if they are to upset the Elephants.
