NFL: Previewing New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals

This has to be one of the most unique Wild Card playoffs ever. And the reason it’s so unique is because it’s not unique at all. In other words: 3 of the 4 match-ups this weekend are the exact same match-ups as the weekend before. And the New York Jets at the Cincinnati Bengals is one of these match-ups. The only difference is that this game will shift venues from New York to Cincinnati.
On Sunday night the Jets had to win to get into the playoffs. But the Bengals didn’t have anything to accomplish. So, not surprisingly, the Jets blasted the Bengals.
Obviously the Bengals didn’t show anything to the Jets. They played as vanilla as vanilla can be. And obviously the Jets did everything they could possibly do to win the game. So, now that it’s all on the line, having shown nothing, that’s advantage Bengals.
The fact that the game is in Cincinnati is advantage Bengals too.
However, with the Jets on a winning streak, and the Bengals limping into the playoffs, that’s advantage Jets.
Overall, this game is going to come down to turnovers. Can the Jets defense create turnovers against the Bengals and give their offense a short field? Can the Jets and rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez protect the ball and allow their defense to defend a long field?
Whichever team protects the ball better will probably win this game. And I think the Bengals will do a better job of that. I think Sanchez will be forced to make plays and he will crack under the pressure.
But what if both teams protect the ball perfectly? What happens then? Well, I still like the Bengals. I think Carson Palmer will be able to make enough plays to win this game.
I expect a fairly low scoring game though. The final will be something like 20-10 in favor of the Bengals.
