NFL: Previewing the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles

This weekend we’re going to see a couple of great match-ups in the NFC. Both games will be rematches of games that were played the last week of the season – just one week before these games will be played. Let’s take a look at perhaps the most interesting game of all: The Philadelphia Eagles visiting the Dallas Cowboys.
Last year the Dallas Cowboys went into Philadelphia with the winner of the game advancing into the playoffs and the loser going home. The Cowboys were embarrassed 44-6. But in the last game of this season the Cowboys returned they favor. The Eagles were dominated 24-0 with the NFC Each Championship on the line.
There are some media “experts” who think the Philadelphia Eagles held back in this game. Some say the Eagles didn’t want to show anything in this game because they knew they might have to play the Cowboys again this week. But this is ridiculous because a win by Philly would’ve given them a #2 seed and a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Maybe the Eagles scaled things back when they were being soundly beaten in the fourth quarter but who’s to say the Cowboys didn’t do the same?
The Eagles certainly did leave their starters in the entire game. Even McNabb was in. And I can tell you that they wanted to at least score on the Cowboys to get a little momentum going their way. But they didn’t.
So, now the Eagles must overcome this past game. They have the veteran leadership to do it but do they have the talent?
Dallas is a very physical team and they can certainly push around the Eagles. If the Cowboys bring their “A” game then they will win this game. But there will be a lot of pressure on the Cowboys to win. Already the ghosts of past playoffs have to be haunting them. As are all the questions about this team not winning a playoff game since 1996. As is the assumption that Head Coach Wade Phillips is gone if they don’t win at least one playoff game.
But I think the Cowboys are the better team that’s playing the best football. Therefore, I will take the Cowboys in this one. I feel a little nervous doing so, but the Cowboys should win by at least a touchdown.
