NFL: Looking at the NFC Playoff Picture
With just 3 games left in the season, we can be pretty sure of how the top of the NFC is going to look. But the bottom of the playoff picture is pretty cloudy.
At the top it will be the New Orleans Saints taking the #1 seed. It will be the Minnesota Vikings taking the #2 seed. Though these positions can change, both of these teams are in the playoffs.
The Arizona Cardinals will make the playoffs too. But whether they get the #3 or the #4 seed remains to be seen.
That leaves 3 playoff spots open and we have 4 teams competing for those spots. The teams are the Philadelphia Eagles (currently on top of the NFC East), the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Giants. The Packers look to be just about a lock for one wild card spot. So, it will come down to the 3 teams from the NFC East to take the final 2 spots.
Common sense would tell you that the Dallas Cowboys will continue their December troubles. They might turn it around but it’s doubtful. However, they do control their own destiny still. They win out and they will win the NFC East.
The Eagles control their own destiny too. They are the hottest of these 3 teams too. So, I would think the Eagles will get in one way or another.
The Giants are a team that doesn’t look like a playoff team and hasn’t looked like one since about week 5 of the season. But they’ve found a way to get it done before and they may very well do it again. They own the tie breaker against the Cowboys. So, if Dallas loses once then the Giants would take over the Cowboys’ playoff spot. But that’s assuming the Giants are able to win one more game than the Cowboys in the final 3 weeks. Looking at the schedules that is a pretty decent possibility.
So, for the six playoff teams, right now I’m going with New Orleans, Minnesota, Arizona, Philadelphia, Green Bay, and New York.
