NFL: Previewing 2 Big Games for Week 14
Posted on | December 13, 2009 | No Comments
These are the weeks that NFL fans live for. Just about every team is fighting to clinch a playoff spot of stay in the playoff hunt. In fact, as we sit here awaiting this week’s games, only the perfect New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts have clinched playoff spots. They’ve both won their divisions. However, The Saints are still fighting for a #1 seed. The Colts are a lock for the AFC #1 seed but they haven’t clinched it yet.
For the rest of the league, playoff spots are still up for grabs. There are a lot of games that feature teams right in the thick of things. 2 of the big games feature the top 2 teams in the NFC. Those games are the New Orleans Saints at the Atlanta Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals at the Minnesota Vikings.
Saints at Falcons
A few weeks into the season this game looked like it would be a huge match-up. However, the Falcons have really fallen off lately. Matt Ryan is playing hurt and when he’s healthy he hasn’t been all that good this year. The Falcons are barely hanging onto a playoff spot at 6-6. Another loss and they are all but done.
The Saints want to win again so that they can make another step toward securing that #1 seed for the playoffs. They also would love to knock their division rival out of playoff contention.
The Saints will win this game by at least 16 points.
Bengals at Vikings
The Bengals have been one of the surprises of this year. I still don’t think they are all that great of a team but I do think they’re good enough to win today.
Last week we saw Brett Favre throwing the ball all over the place and throwing INTs. I predicted this would happen late in the season and I expect it to continue today. The Vikings need to get back to riding Adrian Petersen if they want to stay in the hunt for the #1 seed in the NFC. If they do that then they will have success against the Bengals.
Meanwhile, the Vikings defense should be okay against the Bengals offense. But Carson Palmer and company should score some points.
In the end, this game will come down to turnovers and I don’t trust Favre. I like the Bengals to squeak out a win by about 3 points.
