NFL: Looking at the Giants at the Cowboys
Posted on | December 5, 2009 | No Comments
It was way back in week 2 of the season. The Cowboys kicked off their regular season in the new Cowboys Stadium. Remember that? Remember when the entire league was awe-struck by the huge screen in the stadium? Remember when the entire world hated the fact that the video board was so low? (That video board is yet another example of the media making a lot out of absolutely nothing.) Well, that seems like a season ago. But now it wasn’t.
After that game the Giants would go on to win 3 more games and improve to 5-0. The entire league fell in love with them and many had them rated as high as the best team in the league (including me). The Cowboys would win 1 and then lose 1 to sit at 2-2. And then the current trends broke out.
As the Giants get ready to host the Cowboys they have lost 5 of their last six games. And as the Cowboys get ready to invade Giants Stadium, they have won 6 of their last 7. So the question is: Will these trends continue on Sunday?
Well, they should continue. And if the do continue then the Cowboys should hold the Giants to about 10 points and put-up about 27 points. However, this is an NFC East match-up and that means we have to throw all trends out the window.
Both these teams know this game is huge. If the Giants lose then they can pretty much kiss their playoff hopes goodbye. They can certainly say goodbye to winning the division.
The Cowboys have heard about their December woes for 2 years now. They lose this game and the media will be screaming all week long. Plus, the Cowboys would like nothing better than to all but bury the Giants.
So, we’re going to see 2 teams who are as fired up as possible. And we’re going to see a crowd that is rowdy (thanks to the 4:15 start and plenty of time to tail gate).
Who will win? Well, I’ll make my predictions in the next blog. But certainly the Cowboys should be favored. But that won’t get them anywhere tomorrow afternoon.
