NFL: Analyzing the Best Teams at the Beginning of December
Posted on | December 2, 2009 | No Comments
In the next blog entry we’ll take a look at the Super Seven. For now, we’re going to go through and list all the top teams. And those teams are pretty much the division leaders.
So, that would be New England, Indianapolis, San Diego, and Cincinnati in the AFC. It would also include Dallas, Arizona, and of course Minnesota and New Orleans in the NFC. I’d also throw the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens in there from the AFC and the Philadelphia Eagles in the there from the NFC. However, the very best teams are truly the division leaders. And the Colts, Saints, and Vikings have a lock on the top 3 spots. But that doesn’t mean there’s a lock for any team to make it to the Super Bowl.
In fact, though the Colts are undefeated, they really aren’t overwhelming teams, and the team that takes the field every Sunday isn’t a dominant team. They will lose before the regular season is over and they aren’t guaranteed to make it to the Super Bowl. They could lose to anyone of the other top teams in the AFC. This includes New England, Cincinnati, and San Diego.
In the NFC, it’s obvious the Vikings and the Saints are head and shoulders above all the other teams. But don’t count out Dallas or Arizona just yet. The Cowboys are an especially intriguing team. Yes, I know all about their disastrous Decembers. But this team has a really good defense that is getting better. And they have an offense that can be explosive. That’s a formula that could knock off the Saints or the Vikings.
So, as we sit here in December, we know who the top 3 teams are. We also know who belongs in the next tier (all the other division leaders). However, don’t get fooled into thinking we know who the top 2 teams are, because we don’t.
