NFL: What we Learned from Pats at Saints

Well, I got the points right for the Saints. They did indeed hand 38 points on the Pats. But I overestimated the Pats. I thought they’d score 27 and they only put-up 17.
Like I wrote: I overestimated the Pats.
Their offense isn’t all that good afterall. And their defense just might be worse than I thought – and I didn’t think it was much good to begin with.
The problem with New England is that they don’t have any playmakers. They don’t have a Richard Seymour, a Teddy Brusci, an Asante Samuel, or a Rodney Harrison. They don’t have a pass rusher, a cover corner, or a hard hitting safety. In short, they don’t have much on the defensive side of the ball.
The media is in a frenzy today with how great the Saints are. They are pretty good but they aren’t as great as some would have you think. The Pats just aren’t that good. I would put the Pats in the top 12 in the NFL. They aren’t any lower than that, but they aren’t any higher than 10 either.
Now, the Saints are a really good team. They might even be good enough to go undefeated. I’m talking 19-0. Their offense is scary good and their defense is really good too. But let’s not completely anoint them kings of the world based on what we saw against the Pats. The Saints have looked fairly average in a few games this season. So, just as I won’t label them an average team based on those games, I’m not ready to label them the best team based on the beat-down they gave New England last night.
We do know that the Saints might be the best team in the NFL. In fact, they are right now at this stage of the the season. But the Vikings aren’t far behind. But there isn’t another team in the NFL that’s close to those 2 teams. That is what we certainly know after last night’s game.
