NFL: Looking at the NFC West after Week 10
The NFC West continues to be one of the worst divisions in all of football. Sure, they represented the NFC in the Super Bowl last (thanks to Arizona) but the rest of the teams in this division are pretty pitiful. Right now the Arizona Cardinals are 6-3. They’re followed by the San Francisco 49ers at 4-5, the Seattle Seahawks at 3-6, and the St. Louis Rams at 1-8.
Remember a couple weeks into the season when all the media was so in love with the 49ers? Remember how I wrote that they’d only go 8-8. Well, now it looks like they’ll be lucky to finish .500. Yet they are the second best team in this division. At this point it would be a really strong finish to get back to .500. It’s more likely that the Niners will finish 6-10.
The Rams and the Seahawks are two teams that are an absolute mess. But they make it easier for the Niners and the Cards to get easy wins. And the Cards are going to need all the easy wins they can get.
last year Arizona got hot at the right time of the year. They rode that hot streak all the way to Super Bowl. Though they will certainly make the playoffs this year, I don’t see them having what it takes to make it back to the Super Bowl. In fact, I don’t see them even winning a playoff game.
So, the NFC West doesn’t have very much to offer right now. Obviously the Cards (or even the Niners) could get on a hot streak and ride that right into the playoffs. But I don’t see it happening. I especially don’t see the Niners getting hot. I expect them to get worse as the season wears on.
So, from the NFC West we’ll have just one playoff team and that one playoff team will be the Arizona Cardinals.
