Game: Bolton Wanderers vs Blackburn Rovers
Competition: Barclays Premier League
Venue: Reebok Stadium
KO Time: 13:30 GMT
Sam Allardyce pays a visit to Bolton – a club he managed for eight years with great success. Bolton even qualified for UEFA Cup under Sam’s leadership, but have not been able to replicate such success after his departure. The Trotters have lost their last three games and are just one point above the relegation zone. A visit by Blackburn is ideal opportunity for them to leapfrog the visitors in the Premier League table.
Form Guide (Last few games- all competitions- Bolton Wanderers)
v. Aston Villa (Loss) 1-5 (Elmander)
v. Chelsea (Loss) 0-4
v. Chelsea – Carling Cup (Loss) 0-4
v. Everton (Win) 3-2 (Lee, Cahill, Klasnic)
Bolton are likely to be without the services of joint top scorer Tamir Cohen who is struggling with a groin strain. Danny Shittu and Mustapha Riga will face late fitness tests. Sean Davis and Joey O’Brien remain absent due to long term knee injuries. JLLoyd Samuel is available again after suspension and could replace Paul Robinson at left-back.
Form guide – Blackburn (most recently played game on top)
v. Portsmouth (Win) 3-1 (Roberts*2, Nelsen)
v. Man Utd (Loss) 0-2
v. Chelsea (Loss) 0-5
v. Burnley (Win) 3-2 (Chimbonda, Dunn, Di Santo)
v. Arsenal(Loss) 2-6 (NZonzi, Dunn)
Big Sam will be concerned over the fitness of midfielder Keith Andrews who played 120 minutes in Ireland’s midweek defeat against France. There are no more injury worries for Blackburn. But their away form will be a mattern of concern for Allardyce. Blackburn have not won a single game away from home this season. The fact that Bolton have conceeded in every game this season will give them added hope. Benni McCarthy has scored five goals in five Premier League starts against Bolton and could feature alongside Franco Di Santo if Blackburn chose to play 4-4-2.
Match Verdict: With both teams having simlar troubles, it is a really tough job to pick a winner. But I’ll stick my neck out and go for a Bolton win riding on home support and familiar conditions. A solitary goal win for the Trotters.
Bolton 2-1 Blackburn Rovers (Davies, Elmander // McCarthy)
