NFL: Looking at the NFC East

There’s still a lot of time left in the NFL season. But now that we’re over halfway into the season, it’s time to begin looking at the races in each division and the teams that are looking good to win each division. We’ll also take a look at which teams have the inside track to win the Wild Card. Right now we’ll look at the NFC East. Then in the next couple of blogs we’ll look at the rest of the NFC. Next week we’ll take a look at the AFC.
The NFC East was once thought to be the toughest division in football and before the season’s over it just might prove to be the toughest. But right now every team looks vulnerable. The Dallas Cowboys are winning the division at 6-3. Then the Giants and Eagles are a game back at 5-4. The Redskins are pulling up the rear at 3-6. But the Redskins play the Cowboys this week and can jump right back into the thick of things with a win. A lose and the Skins are done.
It’s a fairly safe bet that the Eagles and Giants will get things straightened out for a second half run. But the Cowboys have 2 home games coming up and they have a good chance at pushing their record to 8-3 before traveling to New York.
Right now it looks like the Cowboys have the slight advantage for winning the division. I would think that either the Giants or the Eagles will be able to capture the Wild Card. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of them earn playoff spots. But if I had to pick one of these teams over the other then I would take the Eagles. The Giants are too suspect in their secondary. And their offense just doesn’t have enough fire power right now.
So, the Cowboys are the slight favorites to win the division and I’ll pick the Eagles to take second and earn a Wild Card berth.
In the next blog we’ll take a look at the NFC North.
