In the last post I wrote about the favored AFC team. Now, let’s take a look at the favored team to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Again, a lot can and will happen between now and the end of the regular season. A lot can even happen once the playoffs start.

But here goes nothing…

In the NFC the clear favorite at this point seems to be the New Orleans Saints. But there are a few other teams that can challenge them. The main team is the Minnesota Vikings. But I wouldn’t count out the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Arizona Cardinals, or even the New York Giants.

But we have to figure out THE favored team. So, the Cardinals aren’t good enough to be considered the favorite. They will make it to the playoffs but they won’t capture lightening in a bottle again. The Giants simply aren’t good enough in the secondary and they aren’t good enough on offense either.

The Eagles have a solid team. But I don’t trust McNabb in big situations. Plus, the Cowboys showed how the Eagles can be beat – don’t turn over the ball on offense and prevent the big play on defense.

That leaves us with the Cowboys, Saints, and Vikings. The Vikings and Saints are the obvious picks and they are ahead of the Cowboys right now. However, the Cowboys have the potential to be just as good as either of the other two teams. In fact, if Dallas can live up to their potential than they just might go the Super Bowl.

Of course that’s a huge “if.” And the Cowboys have made many believers in November and broken many hearts in December and January. So, at this point they can’t be considered a favorite.

That leaves us with the Saints and the Vikings again. The Vikings will fall back when Favre falls back. So, the Saints have to be the favorites. They have a great offense and a good defense. That’s enough to be the favorite right now.
