NFL: Favored Team in the AFC at the Halfway Mark?

For the past several days, the media has been all over celebrating the halfway mark in the NFL season. Everybody loves to put together an All-Pro team. To me, it’s ridiculous. So much will happen the second half of the season. It’s impossible to choose an “All Pro” team right now. Of course, it will keep happening every year because they’re fun to watch and they can be fun to read. But they are worthless.
Another fun thing to do is choose the best teams and which teams look to be Super Bowl bound at the halfway point. Well, I’ve said enough about how things change quickly in the NFL. But I will stoop and make my own predictions for which two teams will be playing for all the marbles at the end of the season.
First, let’s start in the AFC. We’ll take a close look at that conference now and then look at the NFC in the next post.
As of right now, the Indianapolis Colts have the inside track. But there are a lot of other teams that aren’t far behind the Colts. These teams include the Patriots, the Steelers, and the Bengals (yes, the Bengals!). I wouldn’t even count out the Ravens at this point. But I would stick a fork in the Broncos. Orton and the rest of the offense has been exposed. And the Broncos old defensive backs are getting exposed too.
If the Bengals start to go sideways they’ll go down in a hurry with people like Ocho Cinco around. So they aren’t serious contenders either. The Ravens aren’t good enough either. So, it will come down to the Steelers, Colts, or Patriots.
This Sunday night the Colts and Pats will battle it out in Indy. As I’ll write about soon, I like the Pats in the match-up. I just don’t completely believe in the Colts. They have too many injuries on defense. And I don’t think they have enough to make it to the AFC Championship game.
So, that leaves us with the Pats and the Steelers. The pats are getting better on offense every week but their defense is suspect too. Therefore, at this point, I’m going with the Steelers.
The Steelers have the experience., they are solid on both sides of the ball, and they have Big Ben. That’s more than any other team in the AFC has right now.
