Leicester v West Brom Preview

This promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend as two of the top teams go head to head. If anything, most people thought that Leicester would be battling to avoid the drop having only gained promotion to this division last season. However, that’s not been the case at all and the Foxes currently find themselves in 4th position. West Brom are doing as everyone expected, with the Baggies sat in 2nd position – just two points away from top spot.
Leicester romped to the League One title last season but nobody thought they would find the transition to the Championship so easy. The Foxes have surprised everyone and as it stands, they’re just one point away from opponents West Brom. This all seems quite bizarre considering their limited transfer expenditure, which saw Nigel Pearson spend transfer fees on just the two players in Ritchie Wellens and Paul Gallagher. Their form in recent weeks has been stunning though and as well as winning their last three games, they’re also unbeaten in six. They don’t score bucket loads of goals but having kept four clean sheets in those six games, it’s clear they’re tight at the back and will be a tough side to beat.
West Brom on the other hand are sat in the position that everyone predicted. The Baggies have been something of a yo-yo team in recent seasons and unsurprisingly, they were tipped by many bookies as favorites for promotion. However, despite their position, this season hasn’t been completely plain sailing. They went on a run of four games without a win not so long ago and it’s only recently that they’ve put that form behind them. Roberto Di Matteo was quick to hit out at his critics after their last game though, after the Hawthorns outfit thrashed Watford 5-0 to put their season well and truly back on the road.
As for team news, there is little to report for the home side who are expected to name an unchanged side for this one. The only absentee they have is Aleksandar Tunchev, who will continue to miss out through a knee problem. It’s mixed news for the visitors who will welcome back Youssouf Mulumbu and Roman Bednar who have recovered from their respective injuries. However, Roberto Di Matteo will be without Ishmael Miller, Neil Clement and James Morrison who are all long-term absentees.
In recent times West Brom have enjoyed much success over Leicester, although the Baggies will know what a tough test will be in store for them here. West Brom may have thrashed Watford in their last outing, but their season has been inconsistent so far and we believe a draw could occur here. 2-2.
