Nottingham Forest v Bristol City Preview

Posted on | November 6, 2009 | No Comments

Both managers of these clubs will probably be aiming for the play offs come the end of the season and as it stands, both are in decent positions to realize those targets. After heavily strengthening in the summer Nottingham Forest are just being kept out of the top six due to goal difference, while Bristol City are one point higher and sit in 5th position.

Nottingham Forest’s summer spending seems to have paid off and the City Ground side have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season. Most of their points have come in the last month or so and Billy Davies’ men are enjoying an unbeaten run that now stretches to seven games. With five of those being victories, it’s clear that Forest are one of the form sides of the division and a difficult proposition for anyone. However, Davies will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways in this one having drawn their last two games. If they can muster a victory, chances are they should find themselves in the top six by the end of the weekend as while they currently sit in 10th position, they are level on points with QPR who are in 6th.

Bristol City should be relatively happy with their start as well and the Robins currently find themselves in 5th spot. They too are enjoying some great form and haven’t tasted defeat in their last six games. They’ve won three of those fixtures although Gary Johnson will be slightly disappointed that it isn’t four, with City conceding a late equalizer in their last game against Sheffield Wednesday. However, one positive from that match was the goal from Nicky Maynard, with the striker bagging his 10th of the season and highlighting exactly why the club forked out so much money for him at the start of the last campaign.

Billy Davies spent millions of pounds on his forward line in the close season although he will be without a few of them for this fixture though injury. Nathan Tyson, Dexter Blackstock and Rob Earnshaw will all sit out which should give Dele Adebola the opportunity to face his old club. As for the visitors, Gary Johnson will be without Liam Fontaine and Brian Wilson who both continue to sit on the treatment table. However, Bradley Orr has an outside chance of playing after missing the last fixture through a calf injury.

Both of these clubs are in fantastic form and that makes this one a hard fixture to predict. However, despite Bristol City’s lofty position, they have been poor on the road and have just one away victory to their name. With that we’re going to predict a tight home win – 2-1.
