MLB: Looking at Game 6 of the World Series

Posted on | November 3, 2009 | No Comments

We just be in for a wild finish to the baseball season.

Last night the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Yankees to make the World Series 3 games to 2 and force both teams to return back to the Bronx. Now, the Yankees have a little pressure on them. If they lose Game 6 they will have their backs to the wall. Granted they’ll have their ace CC Sabathia on the mound. But he’ll be going on 3 days rest for back-to-back games. I think CC can handle it, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Now, tomorrow night’s game should be a lot of fun to watch for a number of reasons. The fun will start with Andy Petite taking the mound on just 3 days rest. Andy has been a warrior for the Yankees and it’s only fitting that he has a chance to clinch world title #27. Just as fitting is the fact that Pedro Martinez will be the opposition.

I don’t expect either one of these guys to last very long on the mound. I think Petite is too old to go on short rest and be effective much past the 4th inning. Pedro will be on “normal” rest but “normal” rest isn’t enough for him. So, I think he’ll get chased before the end of the 5th inning.

What we’ll have tomorrow night is a slugfest. It will be 2 great offensive teams absolutely mashing. And it will probably come down to which team can score in the 9th inning. That’s why I like the Yankees.

I think they’ll be able to score against the Phillies’ closers but the Phillies will get shutdown by Mariano Rivera. And the Yankees should win the game and become World Champs.

I think the score will be something like 8-7 Yanks. Of course, only time will tell how close I am to being right.
