Game: Manchester United (2nd – 19 pts) vs Bolton Wanderers (13th – 8 pts)
Competition: Barclays Premier League
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester
KO Time: 15:00 GMT
Manchester United would like to get back to winning ways when they take on Bolton Wanderers at home on Saturday. Both teams played out a 2-2 draw at home in their respective BPL fixtures before the international break. However, United will be more disappointed with the result then their opponents on the weekend.
Form Guide (Last five games- all competitions- Manchester United)
Manchester United 2-2 Sunderland (Berbatov, A. Ferdinand (OG)- Bent, Jones)
Manchester United 2-1 VfL Wolfsburg (Giggs, Carrick- Dzeko)
Stoke City 0-2 Manchester United (Berbatov,O’Shea)
Manchester United 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wellbeck)
Manchester United 4-3 (Rooney, Fletcher*2, Owen- Barry, Bellamy*2)
A massive boost to the Manchester United squad is the return of Edwin Van Der Sar after Foster’s poor performance against the ‘Black Cats’. Michael Owen also returns after sitting out the last match with a groin problem. However Wayne Rooney’s calf injury during the international break might cause the striker to miss the game. Rooney’s absence will be a big concern for Sir Alex’s team as he is their top-scorer. But if Ryan Giggs continues the same form as before the international break, he will keep the Bolton defence on its toes.
Form Guide (Last five games- all competitions- Bolton Wanderers)
Bolton Wanderers 2-2 Tottenham Hotspurs (Gardner,Davies- Kranjcar,Corluka)
Birmingham City 1-2 Bolton Wanderers (Phillips- Cohen, Lee)
Bolton Wanderers 3-1 West Ham United (aet) (Davies, Cahill, Elamander- Illunga)
Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Stoke City (Taylor- Kitson)
Portsmouth 2-3 Bolton Wanderers (Kaboul, Boateng – Cohen,Taylor, Cahill)
Bolton will be disappointed to get only a point against the Spurs last time out. Gary Megson’s side played some good football against the Spurs but their defending against set pieces was questionable. However, Cohen, Davies and Taylor have been leading their attack well scoring 12 goals in the last six matches in all competitions. Sean Davies will be out with knee injury while Joey O’Brien and Sam Ricketts are doubtful for the match.
Past meetings
Bolton Wanderers 0-1 Manchester United
Manchester United 2-0 Bolton Wanderers
Nicolas Anelka scored theTrotters’ last goal aginst Manchester United in 2007. Manchester United have not lost to Bolton at home since 2002. However, if Rooney misses out the match the away team might sniff a chance to get something taking a leaf from Sunderland’s book.
Match Verdict: – The United line up for the match may play some part in the outcome. But still, it will be an uphill task for Bolton to get anything from the fixture.
Manchester United 2-0 Bolton Wanderers (Berbatov, Nani)
