Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of Manuel Almunia, who has missed six games with a chest infection. Also doubtful for the game are, Eduardo and William Gallas – who broke his teeth while playing for France in midweek. Denilson is surely out with an injury.

Birmingham City will play their first game after being taken over Carson Yeung and all the players and manager would be out to put up a respectable performance in front of their new owners. City have been in wretched form, winning only one game in five. Birmingham have gone 26 games since they lost by more than one goal. This should be a stern test of that record. Birmingham miss the services of Martin Taylor while Mcfadden, Bent and D. Johnson are unlikely to feature.
