MLB: Creme Rising to the Top

Posted on | October 10, 2009 | No Comments

Each of the 4 divisional playoff games are now 2 games old. 3 of the series are 2-0 and the 4th series is 1-1. All the 2-0 series are led by the team with home field advantage. We are seeing the creme rise to the top. The Yankees, the Angels, and the Dodgers have all put a strangle hold on their series.

First let’s take a look at the Angels and the Red Sox. Many people expected this to be a close series and much of the east coast media thought the Red Sox would win the series. I never bought into that. The Angels are a very good team – much better than the Red Sox. Now with a 2-0 lead, it looks like the Angels will win this series. But it’s not completely over yet. You know the Red Sox will throw everything at the Angels in Fewway Park. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one head back to Anaheim for a game 5. But I’d be shocked to see the Red Sox win that game 5.

The New York Yankees rose up and stole a game from the Twins last night. The Twins led 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th before Texiera led off with a single and then A-Rod hit an a-bomb. The Twins will certainly play better ball back at home. And you can’t count them out. But it will take an epic fail for the Yankees to lose this series. The Yankees are too good for that.

Finally, the Dodgers and Cards series should be a close one but the Dodgers won the first 2 in Los Angeles. As with the other teams, the Cards will play better at home and should be favored to win both games.

The last series, between the Rockies and the Phillies, is tied 1-1 as it heads to Colorado. While I thought the Phillies should be favored in this series, now it looks like the Rockies might be the slight favorite thanks to them winning 1 in Philly.
