MLB: Time to Play Game 163 – Tigers at Twins
Posted on | October 6, 2009 | No Comments
As predicted a couple weeks ago, the Twins have finally caught the Detroit Tigers. It took them the entire season but they managed to do it. And now, they have one game – in the comfort of their own dome – to overtake the Tigers. Will they do it? Well, I think so. And it might not even be close.
For the Tigers to win tomorrow they’re going to need a great pitching performance from rookie 20 year old Rick Porcello. In his 2 starts this year in the Metrodome he hasn’t been impressive. However, I think it’s possible that Porcello pitches pretty well.
But what the Tigers also need is to get up early on the Twins so they take the fans out of the game a little bit. They need to do something like score 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and a couple more in the 4th. That will give Porcello a little room to breathe and it will settle the crowd down. But I don’t see that happening.
The Tigers’ bats have once again gone quiet. And I don’t see them producing much offense in Minnesota.
Meanwhile, the Twins have been hammering the ball. They’ve also been playing small ball really well. This is going to be trouble for the Tigers and Porcello. Look for the Twins to get a runner on early in the game – 1st or 2nd inning – and then move him around the bases. Maybe steal 2nd and then get bunted over to 3rd. Then a sac fly will score him. It’s only one run but it will get into the mind of the young Porcello.
Then the Twins will have a big inning in the 3rd or the 4th inning. They’ll score about 3 or 4 runs. They’ll tack on 1 in the 6th and the celebration will begin.
The last 3 innings of this game will be a party as the Twins and their fans celebrate making the playoffs.
