Arsenal vs Reading

Posted on | March 3, 2007 | 2 Comments

This season’s suprise package Reading will be paying a visit to an off form Arsenal side who are missing several key players such as Eboue, Kolo Toure, Adebayor, Tomas Rosicky and captain Thierry Henry. Recently promoted Reading will surely fancy their chances of causing an upset and maintain their 6th position on the table, it will be an amazing achievement if they managed to get into Europe next season! Most will remember Reading’s dismayal display against Manchester United inside the first 6 minutes where they conceded 3 goals last Tuesday, however you should also note their battling quality to pull 2 goals back before full time. Many teams will just roll over waving white flag but not Reading, they pushed Manchester United till the last minute.

There’s no introduction needed for the young Gunners, yes, they are missing several key senior players but their young players are no push overs either. Just look at their display against Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final (forget the brawl towards the end), with almost the same key players out of the side they too display top quality against a full team Chelsea. Players such as 19 years old Cesc Fabregas formed a formidable central midfield partnership with experienced Brazilian Gilberto, and let’s not forget prodigy striker Theo Walcott who will be celebrating his 18th birthday this coming 16th of March.

Here comes the important question, what’s a good bet between these two? I would have to say Reading, a generous +1 asiahandicap with the payout odds of 1.77. It’s a risky bet but I don’t see Arsenal winning by more than 1 goal against Reading.

Yes Arsenal are a formidable force, especially playing at home. It will be a good match tonight, we’ll see how the Gunners bounce back from 2 back to back defeats in Carling Final and FA Cup.However one must not deny the credits at Reading end, you don’t get to 6th position for nothing :)
