Opening Game

Posted on | April 3, 2006 | No Comments

Well, last night’s opening game between the Indians and White Sox was anything but fun. I had picked the Indians +115 and it was a mess from the start. C.C. Sabathia (CLE) pulled something early in the game and eventually left after two innings of work. This was basically the kiss of death. However, the Indians came back and tied the game at 3 going into the fourth. That’s when the rain poured down.

At this point, I was pretty happy to see the rain. I knew the Indians were in trouble since their starter was out. After about 90 minutes, I saw no let up in the rain and assumed it would be called shortly—especially since it was very late at night. Much to my amazement, they waited for the cows to come home and resumed play. Any though of winning left my mind when Cabrera (CLE) took the mound for the Indians. He proceeded to give up 6 runs in his lone inning of work—he now has an ERA of 54.

In the end, the Indians lost the weird game 11-4. A sad start to what will end up being a great season. I usually like to bet lightly the first couple of weeks to get a feel of how teams are going to perform. Here’s to having a great year.
