NFL: Looking at the AFC Playoffs

Okay. Better late than never. I promised to make predictions for the AFC playoffs and so here I go.
A few days ago I picked the following teams to win their divisions: New England Patriots (AFC East), Baltimore Ravens (AFC North), Tennessee Titans (AFC South), and San Diego Chargers (AFC West). And I like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins to win the Wild Card. (Though I don’t feel very good about my Miami pick after seeing Chad Pennington and the rest of that offense bumble around the field yesterday… but I’ll stick with my pick.)
The seeds for the playoffs will go something like: 1. New England 2. Baltimore 3. San Diego 4. Tennessee 5. Pittsburgh and 6. Miami.
So, that would set-up the Dolphins visiting the Chargers and the Steelers visiting the Titans.
In those games I like the higher seeds to advance. That would mean the Chargers and the Titans win and move on. Then the Chargers would travel to the Ravens and the Titans would travel to the Patriots.
These would be great match-ups and absolute battles. The Pats would win their game by wearing down the Titans, stopping the Titans running game and then putting pressure on Collins. A couple big connections – Brady to Moss – would be enough to win the game. The Chargers and their balanced attack would be enough to win the game at Baltimore. Well, that and their defense smothering Flacco and the rest of the Ravens offense.
So, we would have the Chargers visiting the Patriots. This is a classic match-up. And it would be a game that would come all the way down to the wire. In the end I like the Chargers just because I think they’re due. And I think their defense will do enough to limit the Pats and their offense. Then Rivers and LT and the rest of the offense will be effective and put-up enough points to win the game and advance to the Super Bowl.
There you have it. There’s my picks, such as they are. We’ll have to wait and see how all these teams start off the season and how they do as the season wears on.
