MLB: Close Races Getting Closer

It still looks like all the division leaders will win their divisions without too much difficulty. I called it several days ago and I’m sticking to my prediction. Well, there is one division I’m nervous about. The National League West is still a little too close for comfort. And I guarantee you it’s too close for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yes, they have a 3.5 game lead but the Colorado Rockies are still charging hard. The Dodgers have answered the bell the last couple of days though. They’ve won their last 2. But the Rockies have won 5 straight games.
This win streak has allowed the Rockies to open their Wild Card lead to 3.5 games. What this means is that the Dodgers are pretty much 7 games ahead in the race to make the playoffs. So, they will certainly make the playoffs. And the San Francisco Giants are fading fast.
Perhaps the better race is taking place over in the American League. The Boston Red Sox are being seriously challenged by the Texas Rangers. Their lead is now down to a game and a half. The Texas Rangers are just not going anywhere. And they are still playing great baseball.
I keep wavering between thinking the Rangers will overtake the Red Sox and thinking that the Red Sox will hold on. Right now I have no idea how things will end-up. Obviously, the longer the Red Sox can hold onto their lead the better their odds for winning the Wild Card become. But, with just a game and a half lead, they certainly can’t be comfortable. It’s just too bad that these 2 teams don’t play each other for the rest of the season.
But you know which 2 teams will play? The Yankees and the Red Sox will meet in New York. And you know that the Yankees would love to knock out the Red Sox by sweeping them or something. And that just might be the deciding factor.
