MLB: Big Showdown San Francisco

It seems like every weekend there are a few big series being played. This weekend is no different. The biggest series of all is probably being played in San Francisco where the Giants are taking on the Colorado Rockies. This is a big showdown for the Wild Card in the National League and it might even play into the National League West race.

So far the Giants have gotten the better of the match-up. They won last night 2-0 over the Rockies. The Rockies have now lost 3 straight after it looked like they might challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the division. After taking the first 2 games of a 4 game set against the Dodgers. the Rockies then lost the last 2 games. that dropped them to 4 games back. That’s where they stand as they go into today’s game against the Giants.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants hope to be able to make the most of their chance. They have climbed back to 6 games behind the Dodgers and they are just 2 games behind the Rockies in the Wild Card race. These next 2 games will go a long way in determining the teams that look like they’ll make the playoffs as September rolls around.

Another fairly big series that’s being played right now is the Chicago White Sox visiting the New York Yankees. All year it’s looked like the White Sox were on the verge of putting it all together and taking over the Detroit Tigers for first place in the AL Central. But they still haven’t done it. Now they find themselves 5 games back. If they keep stumbling against the Yankees then they might find themselves too far back when September comes.

The Yankees, on the other hand, continue to play great baseball. They can get penciled in for winning this division and taking home the best record in baseball. But they need to keep playing well and wining this series against the White Sox will continue their march toward greatness.
