MLB: Looking at the American League

Well, it’s that time of the week again. Time to look at the American League and which teams look to be headed to the postseason.

In the American League East the New York Yankees will win the division. Just give them the crown. After taking 2 of 3 from the Red Sox in Boston, the Yankees now have a 7.5 game lead. That’s not a lot but it’s plenty for the Yankees. And with only 38 games left to play, this division is done.

Over in the American League Central there’s still a close race. The Chicago White Sox are just 2.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers. And the Minnesota Twins are now just 4.5 games back. I keep saying the Tigers have to hit if they want to get some distance between themselves and the rest of the division. But they are what they are and they probably won’t hit regularly at any point during this season. But you what? The White Sox and the Twins are what they are too. And that’s just not very good. So, I’m back to taking the Tigers to win this division.

Out West, the Anaheim Angels have now opened up a 5.5 game lead. This race is over too. Yeah, Texas is really good but not good enough to catch the Angels.

So, the AL East and the AL West is decided and that means the Rangers and the Red Sox will battle it out for the Wild Card. I think the Red Sox have more talent but not by much. And I don’t like the mental state of the Red Sox (see the incident with the Tigers). So, I’m taking the Rangers to win the Wild Card.

That would mean the Yankees, Tigers, Angels, and Rangers are all in the playoffs. And we’ll probably see a showdown between the Yankees and the Angels in the ALCS.
