With just a few weeks to go till the end of the NRL rugby league home and away season, it is really hotting up. There have been some interesting NRL results which will have a major bearing in deciding who will ultimately be the NRL premiers.

With Wayne Bennett at the helm, the St George Dragons sit on top of the ladder. NRL betting installed them as favorites about two months ago and they have stayed there ever since. Just under them is the Bulldogs and you can still get great NRL odds on the boys from Belmore.

Down the other end of the ladder it has been a horrible year for both the Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks. Nothing has gone right for either side on or off the field. Roosters’ coach, Brad Fittler has been a casualty of this and will be replaced in 2010 by former Newcastle coach, Brian Smith. The way the NRL betting is currently looking is that the Roosters are the favorite for the wooden spoon. It has been an up and down decade for the Chooks with them having contested Grand Finals in 2000 and then three years in a row from 2002-04. It was only victorious in one of those.

The Storm have also competed in three straight Grand Finals this decade – could they make it four? A loss to Newcastle on Monday night didn’t help them but they still sit in fourth spot. They are still in the mix but unlikely to get the double chance.

The race for the eighth and final spot is fierce with four team on 26 points and two a point behind them on 25 points and then the Cowboys on 24 points. The Cowboys have a great points difference so should they win they will probably make the eight.

Parramatta and Penrith  are the teams on 25 while the Broncos, Knights, Se Eagles and Tigers are on 26. It is a really close competition with the Tigers capable of slipping from 5th spot where they are now to completely missing out.

The season looks gone for South Sydney and Canberra. The two were just too inconsistent and couldn’t win enough games. A team who did are the Titan who sit in third spot and are a real chance of playing in their first NRL Grand Final. Just their third year in the competition, they finished 13th last year but have been playing some great rugby league this year to be a real contender.
