MLB: NL West Getting Interesting

This is what makes baseball so great. Well, it’s one of the things. You just don’t ever know what’s going to happen. Last year I didn’t think there was anyway that the Tampa Bay Rays would win the AL East. Well, they did. Then from the month of April I thought the Arizona Diamondbacks would run away with the NL West. Well, they did and they were caught by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This year, I thought the Los Angeles Dodgers would definitely run away with the NL West. They looked to be the best team in baseball. They had one of the best managers in all of baseball, one of the best hitting line-ups, and one of the best pitching staffs. Given how the rest of the division started the season, it seemed a certainty that the Dodgers would win the division by 15 or maybe even 20 games.

Well, it looks like I might be wrong again.

Last night the Dodgers lost again. It was their 6th loss in the last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants each won last night. It was each team‘s 3rd straight win. So, now the Rockies are only 3.5 games behind the Dodgers and the Giants are only 4.5 games behind the Dodgers.

I can’t believe that this division is now the 2nd closest division in all of baseball. (The AL Central continue to be the closest division as the Detroit Tigers are only 2 games ahead of the Chicago White Sox.) I still think the Dodgers will win this division. I don’t see how Joe Torre would let this one get away. But then again, I didn’t see any way that the Diamondbacks would be caught last year. And I didn’t see anyway that the Rays would beat out the Red Sox last year either. Of course, I was wrong then, and I may very well be wrong now.
