MLB: Yanks Are Running Away and AL Standings

The Boston Red Sox are now playing for the Wild Card. I know. I know. There’s 6 weeks left in the season and about 50 games. And a 6.5 game lead isn’t THAT big. All very true. But it’s over.
The Yankees have a much better pitching rotation and they have better hitters. Unless something crazy happens, this is over.
And the Wild Card certainly isn’t a lock for the Red Sox. They’re now tied with the Texas Rangers at the top and the Rays are right behind both of them. And, let’s not overlook a team out of the AL Central either. If the Tigers win this upcoming series against the Red Sox then they’ll only be a couple games behind the Sox. So, if the White Sox get hot and blow past the Tigers then look out.
But, in the AL Central the Tigers are now 3 games ahead of the White Sox and 5.5 games up on the Twins. Again, a long way to go. This one will come down to hitting. I still like the White Sox to catch the Tigers. However, a good week by Detroit will change my mind.
Finally, the Rangers are sticking close to the Angels. They’re just 3.5 games back. The Rangers now get the semi-hot Indians and the Angels have a big battle against the Rays. I still like the Angels in this division.
So, the AL East is really the only division that suddenly doesn’t look all that interesting. But things can change in just a couple days. Let’s face it: Just about 4 days ago the Red Sox were only back by 2.5 games and they had owned the Yankees. Now look where things stand. 4 days ago seems like 4 years ago.
I’m not even going to take the Red Sox for the Wild Card anymore. I’m going to go with the Rays. Yes, the Rays. I counted them out last year and they made a fool out of me. So, I won’t make that mistake again!
So, I like the Yankees, White Sox, Angels, and Rays to make the playoffs. At least that’s what I like this week.
