MLB: The Battles Rage On

Posted on | August 9, 2009 | No Comments

I don’t mean to ignore the National League but with these 3 big series in the American League can’t be ignored. And in New York the worm has certainly turned. The New York Yankees have won the first 2 games of the series and they’ve pushed their lead to 5.5 games in the East.

In fact, the Red Sox have yet to score a run in this series. That’s 24 innings of no runs scored. Unbelievable.

And the Red Sox are barely holding onto the Wild Card spot. Lucky for them the Rangers lost too. However, the Rays won and now the Red Sox lead the Rangers by just a game and the Rays by just a game and half.

The Red Sox better get their bats figured out or they’ll become the Tigers – without the great pitching.

Speaking of the Tigers, their bats decided not to show up once again. They scored no runs yesterday too. And they gave-up 11 runs. As usual, the Tigers had their chances to score runs but they failed to come through in the clutch and their approach in those situations were horrible too.

Now the Tigers lead the White Sox by 2 games and the Twins by 4.5 games. So, today’s game will be a big one.

Over in the West the Angels came back in a big way and beat the Rangers 3-2. So they pushed their lead back to 4.5 games.

This sets up big games in all of these series. The Yankees are looking to really step on the Red Sox’s throat. The Red Sox are starting to become desperate for a win. Who would have thought that would be the case when the Sox won the firts 8 games of the series?

The Tigers want to extend out their lead and not let the Twins and White Sox get closer. Yet the Twins don’t want to leave Detroit back 5.5 games.

And the Angels want to build a comfortable lead against the Rangers but the Rangers don’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. Whether this division is close a month from now may very well have a lot to do with who wins this game today.
