Wow. What a pitchers’ duel between the Yankees and the Red Sox last night. With Beckett and Burnett getting the starts it figured to be a low scoring game. However, nobody could’ve expected that the teams would go more than 14 innings before a run was scored.

Finally, Alex Rodriguez got a meaningful hit. Actually, that’s not fair. Despite having bad numbers this season, it does seem as if A-Rod has been better this year in the clutch.

But with the win the Yankees are now 4.5 games ahead in the AL East. The Red Sox are struggling right now and they better find a way to right their ship. Forget winning the AL East, the Sox might be in trouble for losing the Wild Card as well.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are finally starting to score some runs. They hit double digits last night against the Twins. The Tigers have now won 3 straight games and they’ve extended their lead over the Twins to 5.5 games. Second place Chicago lost last night too. So the Tigers lead the White Sox by 3 games. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If the Tigers start hitting then they’ll run away with the division. And the best news for the Tigers is that recently called up catcher, Alex Avila, is coming up with clutch hitters. That’s exactly what the Tigers need – clutch hitting and production from the bottom third of their line-up.

Finally, the Rangers crushed the Angels last night. So, the Angels’ lead in the AL West is now just 4.5 games. The Rangers can cut into that even more this weekend. The Rangers just aren’t going away.

However, the Rangers are now just a game in back of the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card too. The Rays remain 2.5 games back. Like I already wrote, the Red Sox better start winning or they’ll be in danger of missing the playoffs all together.
