MLB: The Start of Something Big in the AL!
Posted on | August 6, 2009 | No Comments
Beginning today and tomorrow, there will battles at the top of every division in the American League. The New York Yankees will play the Boston Red Sox, the Detroit Tigers go against the Minnesota Twins, and the Anaheim Angels will battle the Texas Rangers. So, that’s 1 vs. 2 in every division except the AL Central where it will be 1 vs. 3 but only 4.5 games separate the 2 teams.
Of course the Yankees and the Red Sox will be the series that draws most of the attention of the media. And it is a big series. The Yankees have managed to build a 2.5 game lead on the Red Sox and the Yankees have yet to win against the Sox this year. Imagine if they have won just a couple games? The Yankees would be close to running away with the division.
But the Red Sox better be careful. The last thing they want is to get beat up by the Yankees in this series. Not only will their chances of winning the AL East be damaged but their chances of going to the playoffs may be in peril.
The Sox are only 2.5 games ahead of the Rangers and just 3 in front of the Rays. So, the Wild Card is far from a given right now. And with the way the Red Sox have played lately, they just might be in trouble.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are now 2 games up on the White Sox and 4.5 up on the Twins. Therefore, the Twins need to have a good series. But if the Tigers can win the series then they can put some breathing room between themselves and the Twins. They might be able to extend their lead over the White too.
Finally, the Angels are looking to begin to bury the Rangers this weekend. They’re 4.5 games up. With the Rangers coming into town you know Anaheim wants to send them away down by more than 7 games. That would pretty much be all she wrote.
But we will see. These 3 big series will be a lot of fun to watch.
