MLB: Big Games in the AL East
Posted on | August 4, 2009 | No Comments
As just a .5 game separates the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, there are about to be 2 big series in the AL East. The Yankees are taking on the Toronto Blue Jays and the Red Sox are taking on the Tampa Bay Rays.
First of all, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox will begin a series in Tampa today. The Rays are currently 5.5 games behind the Yankees and 5 games in back of the Red Sox. If the Rays hope to make a climb back to the playoffs then they better win this series. In fact, they better start winning a lot of series. But this one is more important than most. It’s big for the Red Sox and the Rays.
However, the Rays need it more than the Red Sox. But for the Red Sox, they have a chance to take over 1st place and they also have a chance to put more breathing room between themselves and the Rays. Of course, for them to be able to take over 1st place in the East they have to get the Yankees to lose this week.
The Yankees are taking on the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto. The Blue Jays began the season red hot but they’ve now fallen back to 3 games below .500. They’re also 12 games in back of the Yankees. So, if the Blie Jays hope to get back into the race then they better win this series.
But for the Yankees, they just lost a series to the Chicago White Sox. Now they need to rebound or they might find themselves looking up at the Red Sox again. The Yankees have to begin the series by facing Roy Halladay. The Yanks were probably hoping that Halladay would be on the mound for them. Instead the Blue Jays held on to their ace and now he’ll try to get the win against the Yanks tonight.
