MLB: Teams Making Moves

Posted on | July 28, 2009 | No Comments

As the trade deadline continues to get closer, a lot of clubs are making moves and a lot of players are being moved around. The one big player that’s yet to be moved is Roy Halladay. Logic says he will get moved, but the closer it gets to the deadline the harder it will be for the Jays to get a lot of value. Teams know that the Jays will lose a lot of value if they let Halladay stick on their club. Next year will be Halladay’s last with the Blue Jays. So, next year there will a lot less value.

So, if it gets too close to the trade deadline then teams will step back on their offers because they’ll figure the Blue Jays have to pull the trigger in some way. Expect Halladay to go somewhere by the end of the day tomorrow. And expect it to be the Phillies that get Halladay.

A report surfaced today that the Phillies might be going after Cliff Lee now. Perhaps they’ve given up on Halladay. But I doubt it. Sure, they might really be going after Lee but I guarantee they’re also using it to get the Blue Jays to loosen up a bit on their demands. It will probably work too.

A couple deals are fairly fresh. The Chicago White Sox sent Brian Anderson to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Mark Kotsay. The San Francisco Giants got Ryan Garko from the Cleveland Indians.

But there are still a lot of teams that could use some help. The Detroit Tigers seem to have the biggest need. They’re hitting is atrocious. Put a bat or two in their line-up and this team can be really good.

Don’t expect the Yankees to stay quiet much longer either. They are too quiet. Something is about to go down in Gotham. you just wait. Will it be Halladay? Well, that would surprise me. But it wouldn’t surprise me that much.
