MLB: Predicting the Second Half of the Season
Posted on | July 16, 2009 | No Comments
As the 2nd half of the baseball season takes flight today, now would be a great time to take a look at how I see the season shaping up. Which teams do I see making the playoffs and how do I see the playoffs unfolding? Well, first let’s look at the teams that I see as sure shots to make the playoffs. Then we’ll look at the other playoffs teams. And finally we’ll look at how I see each of the teams doing in the playoffs.
The Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West and the Boston Red Sox in the American League East are in the playoffs. I’m sure of this. Yes, maybe the Yankees (or even the Rays) will catch the Red Sox and win the East but the Red Sox will still get a Wild Card.
I also like the Phillies chances for taking the NL East. And, though Texas has played greta ball so far this season, I like the Angels in the AL West.
The Central divisions in each league are little more difficult to predict. I like the Tigers to win the AL Central. They need more hitting but they’re still in first without Ordonez hitting for power and without Carlos Guillen even playing. Guillen should be back soon and Ordonez should find his power at some point. With a little more hitting the Tigers win the division by at least 5 games.
In the NL Central it will be a battle well into September. But I like the Cardinals to outlast the Cubs.
The Wild Card in the NL go to the Giants and the Wild Card in the AL will go to the Yankees.
That would mean the Red Sox, Tigers, Angels, and Yankees make it from the AL and the Phillies, Cards, Dodgers, and Giants make it from the NL.
I like the Red Sox and the Tigers in the ALCS and the Dodgers and Phillies in the NLCS. I like the Red Sox and the Dodgers in the World Series. Imagine those story lines? Torre and Manny against the Red Sox.
I like the Dodgers to win it all.
