New Orleans Saints vs Chicago Bears

Posted on | January 22, 2007 | No Comments

Between two inexperienced playoff teams, it might just boil down to who is hungrier for the Superbowl. The Saints are having a big season after finishing their last with a disappointing 3-13 record. They certainly have a lot to play for as the city is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. With the best offense in the NFL, they probably did not come this far just because of their passion to win. Coach Sean Payton has miraculously turned this team around, making full use of the passing prowess of Drew Brees who threw for 4,418 yards (an NFL high) and 26 touchdowns this season. Rushing duo Deuce McAllister and rookie Reggie Bush also contributed greatly to the firepower of the Saints offense, and Deuce showed his mettle as he pummeled the Eagles for 143 yards to win 27-24 the last game.

But the Bears are definitely not going to just sit and watch the Saints run all over them. This is the furthest they have come since their NFC title game 17 years ago. Though their 27-24 overtime win against the Seahawks was far from convincing, Rex Grossman gave the performance of his life passing 282 yards. Of the last four games between the two, the Saints managed to win 3 of them but the Bears won the most recent clash 20-17 at Baton Rogue on Nov 26. This is a hard game to call, but Bodog’s +2 ½ handicap to the Saints makes them a safer bet.
