Liverpool vs Chelsea

Posted on | January 20, 2007 | No Comments

The premiership champions visit one of the most difficult places to go and get the result in the premiership. Liverpool have been nothing but fantastic at home with not a single defeat and conceding very few goals at home. They have won 9 and drawn 2 of their 11 home games this season. In previous encounters between the two teams Jose Mourinho has never lost to a Liverpool team managed by Rafael Benitez and that will definitely be a big boost for their players ahead of this clash. Chelsea have got the maximum points away from home only behind Manchester United. Liverpool and Chelsea have the record for the maximum number of clean sheets this year with 13 and 12 respectively. If Chelsea manage to win this today, it will be their third successive double in the premiership.

In the reverse fixture at Stamford bridge, both the teams were equally matched with Liverpool having the majority of the chances but could not capitalize on their opportunities. Chelsea won the match with a blinder of goal from Didier Drogba.

It is pretty certain that Liverpool will not come out with the same side that beat Watford where they played 3 strikers and 3 central defenders from the start. Agger and Carragher will most probably get the nod ahead of Sami Hyypia who will feature on the bench. It will be interesting to see if they play 3 strikers or continue with the 4-4-2 formation. Mark Gonzalez is back from a shin injury and faces a late test to prove his fitness.

For Chelsea, their Captain is still out recovering from a back problem. Claude Makelele is also out facing a suspension. John Obi Mikel is likely to take his place and start. It is anyone’s guess if Mourinho plays Essien in defense or allows Ferreira to partner Carvalho. All four Chelsea goalkeepers have been named in the 21 so that worry is finally out. Petr Cech is fit, but is not 100% to start this match.

I am going for a Chelsea win on this one. Chelsea to win is at the odds of 2.62. This could be a potentially high scoring match, so the odds for over 2.5 goals at 2.30 is a decent bet. Dirk Kuyt to score first and Chelsea to win 3-1 is my Scorecast prediction at sky high odds of 206.00.
