MLB: Looking at the National League Leaders
Posted on | June 23, 2009 | No Comments
Yesterday we took a look at the American League leaders. We looked at how things stand right now and we also took a look at how things will probably end up a few months from now. Today we’re going to turn to the National League.
When looking at the National League we have to start with the National League West and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers continue to have the best record in baseball. But they better look out for the Colorado Rockies. For the past month the Rockies have been the hottest team in all of baseball. They just smacked the Angels (last night) 11-1. Sure, they’re still 9 games back but there’s plenty of baseball left to be played this season.
In the NL East the Philadelphia Phillies are at the top. Now they’re just a game and a half ahead of the Mets though. The Marlins are only 3 games back and the Braves are only 4 games back. This division is still completely up for grabs. Any of the 4 top teams could win it.
Over in the NL Central there is just as tight of a race going on. The Cardinals are leading the division but there are 3 teams within three and a half games. The Brewers are just a game back, the Cubs are two and a half back, and the Reds are just three and half back. Just like the East, this division could go to any of these teams. However, by the time September rolls around it will probably be down to just the Cards and the Cubs.
So who will win each of these divisions? Well, I’m actually going to go with the Braves in the East. Then I’ll take the Cards in the Central and the Dodgers in the West. For the Wild Card I’ll take the Phillies. At least that’s how I see it right now.
