MLB: The National League

Posted on | June 16, 2009 | No Comments

Yesterday Interleague play slowed down nearly to a complete stop. There were just 2 games played. So, we looked at the top teams in the American League and took a look at how the teams will probably finish. Today we’re going to take a look at the National League.

Right now the top team in the National League are the Philadelphia Phillies in the East, the Milwaukee Brewers in the Central, and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the West. Let’s start with the easy division.

Obviously the easiest division to predict is the NL West. The Dodgers continue to lead that division by 7.5 games. Every day that goes by draws the Dodgers a game closer to getting Manny back too. That’s right, they have this huge lead and one of their best hitters – probably THE best hitter on the team – has been suspended. The Dodgers’ lead will only get bigger.

The other 2 division in the NL aren’t nearly as easy to predict. In the NL East, there are still 3 teams with a legitimate shot at winning the division. The Phillies, Mets, and Braves all have a shot. I know, I left out the Marlins but they have no shot even though they’re a half game ahead of the Braves right now. Soon, I’ll add the Braves to the same list if they don’t start playing better. But I like the Phillies to win the division and I like the Mets to take the Wild Card.

Over in the Central, it’s pretty much anyone’s division. All the teams are within 4.5 games of the lead. The Brewers, Cubs, and Cardinals have to be the favorites. It’s hard to go against both the Cards and the Cubs. But I just think the Cubs are a better team. So, I’ll go with them.

So, there you have it. As interleague play revs back up later today, that’s the way the National League is shaping up so far.
