MLB: Those Silly Baseball “Experts”

Posted on | May 21, 2009 | No Comments

The media darlings at the beginning of this week were the Texas Rangers. Oh, how the baseball “experts” all loved the Rangers. I mean the Rangers had great pitching, the Rangers had great hitting, great coaches, a great bullpen, and even great uniforms. The Rangers looked like they had just become the World Series favorite.

Well, the Rangers are a solid team. They also have good pitching and they have some good hitters. But they just fell flat on their face in Detroit.

Now, to be fair to the Rangers, they did run into some great pitching and they were without their star slugger Josh Hamilton. I mean, the Tigers pitching may be scary this year – and I mean that in a good way for the Tigers.

But you would think the Rangers would’ve handled this series a little better than they did. They got swept out of Detroit and they never really looked like they would win a game. So can we stop all the love already? Can the “experts” please find something else to write about and talk about. Like maybe the New York Yankees looking even better than they’re supposed to be? Or how about those Detroit Tigers now winning 6 straight games and opening up a 3 game lead in the American League Central?

What we might be looking at is the creme rising to the top. The Yankees are red-hot, the Red Sox are charging hard, and now the Tigers seem to be putting it together.

It’s the Tigers that are an interesting team. They have Verlander who looks as good as ever. They have Edwin Jackson who was good last year and looks even better this year. Then there is Dontrelle Willis who was lights out a couple nights ago. The youngster Porcello who has great stuff. And then Armando Gallaraga who’s been struggling but was the best pitcher for the Tigers last year and the first month of this year.

And, let’s not forget, Jeremy Bonderman is continuing his rehad stint and will start on the Triple A level again very soon. Bonderman can be dominant too. So, the Tigers look like they might have the deepest starting pitching in all of baseball. And that just might be enough to allow them to challenge the big boys in the American League.
