This week there are several big match-ups starting this week. They all involve teams who are in the thick of their divisional races. In the American League the major match-ups are between Toronto and the New York Yankees, Boston and Anaheim, Detroit and Minnesota, the New York Mets and Atlanta, Florida and Milwaukee, and the Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Yankees might be on the verge of an implosion. Or they could be on the verge of turning their season around. The direction they go could be determined with these games against the Toronto Blue Jays. And, really, this series is just as important to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees are trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by 6.5 games. But if they can win this series, they can close that gap. But if Toronto Blue Jays can maintain their slim lead and win this series against the Yankees then that will send a message to the entire division that they are for real.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins will meet in Minnesota. This should be a hard fought divisional race for the entire season. However, the Tigers, along with the Kansas City Royals, have put 3 games between themselves and the rest of the division. The Tigers can extend that lead by winning this division against the Twins. Or the Twins can jump right back up even (or close to even) with the Tigers and maybe the Royals too.

Over in the National League the Florida Marlins have a big series coming up against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Marlins started the season on fire but have since cooled. In fact, the Mets now lead the NL East. The Brewers are no pushovers either. So, we’ll have to see if the Marlins can get it back together and win a series against a good team.
