MLB: That Crazy AL East

You know, if you look at every interesting story in baseball right now, just about all of them are in or are somehow tied to the AL East. Let’s take a look at some of the big stories:
Manny Ramirez is in the spotlight because of the whole steroids thing. He plays for the Dodgers. But where did the Dodgers get him from? That’s right. The Boston Red Sox from the AL East. And his manager, Joe Torre, came from the Yankees (of course).
Then we have the the whole A-Rod story. The book with A-Rod and the allegations that are in it. And we have A-Rod returning too. Of course, A-Rod is the Yankees third baseman.
And we have all eyes on those Yankees to see if they’re going to turn into a train wreck. They have that huge payroll and yet they’re still under .500. And they are 5.5 games back in the East. But they will play the first place Toronto Blue Jays beginning on Tuesday. You hate to put a lot of stock in a series in May, but that is a pretty big one. The Yankees can get themselves right back into the thick of things or they can fall back farther. If they fall back, look out. Girardi might not survive the week. Seriously.
And we also have the Boston Red Sox and they’re winning ways of late. And the story of the Toronto Blue Jays who are managing to hold off the Red Sox, Yankees, and the Rays. The fact that they’ve done it for about 35 games is extraordinary. If they can continue to do it it will be more surprising than the Rays of last year. The Blue Jays lost their 2nd best pitcher (to the Yankees) and they have 3 great teams to fight off (the Rays only had the Red Sox last year).
Of course there are other big stories in baseball. But there you have most of the biggest stories and they all involve in the AL East. No east coast bias, that’s just the way it is.

The AL East will be an interesting 4 team race until the end with the Orioles playing spoiler every now and again. The Yanks are hitting the ball very well at home lately as they look to sweep the Orioles tonight. Look for the hitting barrage to continue tonight with Adam Eaton on the hill, taking the Over 10.5 (bodog).
