MLB: Looking At all the Divisions
Posted on | June 10, 2009 | No Comments
As the week ends, now is as good a time as any to take a look at every division and see exactly what’s going on. We’ll start in the AL East and then work our way all the way around to the NL West.
In the American League East the Toronto Blue Jays continue to lead the division. Even though the Boston Red Sox have played much better baseball the past few weeks, they haven’t been able to catch the Blue Jays yet. The Yankees, even with A-Rod back, still aren’t playing good ball. They’re a game under .500 and they’re 5.5 games back.
In the AL Central, the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack. They are tied at the top of the division and they have a 3 game lead.
In the AL West, the Seattle Mariners have given up the lead. The Texas Rangers now lead that division. However, the Angels are coming off a sweep of the Royals and they’re just a half game out of first.
Over in the NL East, it’s the New York Mets who are red-hot. They’ve won 7 straight games and they now lead the AL East by a game over the Florida Marlins and a game and a half over the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s doubtful that we’ll see the Marlins on top again this year.
In the NL Central, the St. Louis Cardinals continue to play good ball. They are 2 games up on the Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago and Cincinnati are both 2.5 games back. This division is shaping up to be a great race.
Finally, in the NL West, the Los Angeles Dodgers are on top of the division. But their dominance at home has taken a hit. With the loss of Manny, the Dodgers no longer look like a sure thing to run away with this division. But, Joe Torre is the perfect manager to handle adversity and the Dodgers do still lead the division by 4.5 games.
