Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa

Both the teams are coming off defeats into this boxing day encounter. Spurs lost against a good looking and spirited Newcastle team at St. James’ Park, and Aston Villa although they played well in the first half against Manchester United couldn’t get the right result.
Jermaine Defoe is doubtful for this match after a freak injury in the warm-up before the Newcastle game. Aaron Lennon also misses out in this match and he will surely be frustrated this season due to the injuries keeping him out of action regularly. Jermaine Jenas is still nursing his ankle while Robbie Keane is recuperating from his knee injury. Martin Jol would be looking to field almost the same side he did against Newcastle barring a few changes due to the hectic Christmas period.
Martin O’Neal has kept out probably Aston Villa’s best striker, Milan Baros out of action. Baros and Angel are likely to play against Spurs with Chris Sutton would start from the bench. Gavin McCann will face a late fitness test and the manager will be hopeful that the midfielder passes it successfully.
After their defeat against United, Villa will be looking to take all three points against a Spurs team which has been rather up – down this season. Aston Villa to win either half is at the odds of 2.25 and those are definitely decent odds. The first goal to be scored inside the 28th minute is at 2.0 and that certainly looks possible looking at the probable line-ups ahead of the match.
