MLB: Is Boston the Best Team in Baseball?

After a very slow start for the Boston Red Sox, they’ve caught fire and now they’re rolling. Last night they rolled to their 12th win in their last 13 games. Now they’re at the top of the AL East and it looks like they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

It’s hard to find a weak link with the Red Sox. They have the starting pitching. They have the bullpen. They have hitting, and they have the gloves. They also have speed.

So this brings us to a question that needs to be asked: Are the Boston Red Sox the best team in baseball?

As we close the month of April and roll into May, the Red Sox are certainly the hottest team in baseball. There’s no doubt about that. But are they the best overall team?

First of all, the Red Sox have lots of hitting, that’s for sure. But I do wonder if they have enough hitting in key spots. Without Manny, David Ortiz’s production may get hurt. So if there is a weak link I think that’s where it is. But I realize that it’s a bit of a stretch. And it’s a nice minor problem to have when most teams are looking for another starter or another arm or two in their bullpen or a bat in the middle of their line-up.

But there are other really good teams too. In fact, if the Yankees get pitching from their youngsters like we saw in the last 2 games – with Chamberlain and Hughes being dominant – then they are suddenly a force. A-Rod will be back soon and you know Sabathia and Burnett will be solid all year long as starters.

Then you have the Dodgers over in the National League and the Phillies too.

But overall the Red Sox are the best team in baseball right now. Can they stay healthy? Can another team (like the Yankees) realize their full potential and catch them? Sure, either of these can happen. But right now the Red Sox are the best team in baseball.
