MLB: Round One Goes to the Red Sox

Every time the Yankees and the Red Sox get together, the entire baseball world pays attention. Fans of the Yankees and the Red Sox get really excited. Last night, in the first meeting of the season between these two teams, nobody was disappointed.
It looked like the New York Yankees would win the game. They led the game by two runs after he top of the 7th inning and that was the score when they entered the bottom of the ninth. The Yankees closer, Mariano Rivera, got one out in the eighth and looked to grab his save in the ninth. But he gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth. That sent the game to extra innings tied at four. The Red Sox would win it in the bottom of the eleventh.
The Red Sox used the long ball to tie and then win the game. With two outs in the ninth, Jason Bay hit a two run homer. Then in the bottom of the eleventh inning Kevin Youkilis hit a solo homer. And that was the game. The Yankees lost a tough one and the Red Sox won their eighth straight game.
The second game of the series will be played Saturday afternoon. It will be Burnett for the Yankees and Beckett for the Red Sox. Burnett has been the Yankees best pitcher this year, and Beckett is the Red Sox ace. So it should be a good one. But I have to lean toward the Red Sox in this one.
Meanwhile, the Royals took sole control of first in the AL Central by hammering the Tigers. Zach Grienke was awesome once again. He is the early favorite to win the Cy Young.
Also, St. Louis beat the Chicago Cubs on Friday by one run. That puts the Cardinals two and a half games up in the NL Central.

We were about 2 point away from pulling the trigger and picking the Yanks to win that game. Luckily we didn’t. That is about as big of a heartbreaker for a sports bettor as you can get. 2 outs in the ninth with a 2 run lead and a hall of fame closer. Just one of life’s lessons… you need to learn roll with the punches. Betting on sports can be one wacky ride sometimes, but it’s all worth it when you come out on top in the end.
