QPR v Plymouth Preview

Posted on | April 24, 2009 | No Comments

Some may look at QPR’s position and think that they don’t have anything to play for, but with the club currently managerless you could say that the players are playing for their futures. Plymouth on the other hand looked safe a few weeks ago, but there’s still a small chance they could go down and they need another win to make sure of their Championship safety.

QPR have been one of the most turbulent clubs in the division and they’ve already sacked two managers through the course of the season. Iain Dowie was given his marching orders after only a few months at the helm, while Paulo Sousa wasn’t given much longer and he left a few weeks ago. This now means that Gareth Ainsworth is in charge and after impressing at the start of the season as caretaker manager, he’ll want to do all that he can to net the job on a full time basis. So far, results haven’t been promising though. The R’s have won one and lost two under Ainsworth’s helm, although in their last game against Wolves they played exceptionally well and were denied a point by a rather unlucky goal. With that, although the club seemingly have nothing to play for and sit in 11th, both manager and players are playing for their futures.

As for Plymouth, the Pilgrims are sat in 19th position at the moment and on face value, their four point cushion from the relegation zone suggests that they’ll be safe. However, this fixture is by no means easy and with relegation rivals Barnsley visiting Home Park on the final day of the season, there’s still some tense moments left for Paul Sturrock’s men. Their latest result didn’t give supporters much room for optimism either after Doncaster went on something of a rout and put three past them at Home Park. With that, major improvement is required for these final two games, although you’d assume that their point’s tally of fifty should be enough for now.

QPR have been given a huge boost coming into this one with the news that Patrick Agyemang is finally fit to feature. The striker has been out for three months with a thigh injury yet he’s now been given the all clear and has every chance of starting for Gareth Ainsworth. Plymouth on the other hand have no new concerns and Paul Sturrock has hinted that he won’t make any changes to his side – even though the Pilgrims were destroyed 3-0 at home in their previous game.

QPR are playing for their futures while Plymouth have looked very shaky in recent weeks. With that, we think this could be a straightforward home victory – 2-0 R’s.
