MLB: A Wind Tunnel In New York?

Have you heard the latest rumor? Have you heard how the new Yankees Stadium has a wind tunnel or maybe a mini jet stream running out through right field? No real evidence here. At least not yet. Well, except for the dozens (actually 20) of homers that have been hit in the first 4 games in the stadium. I’m not great at math but I even I can figure that’s 5 per game. And that is a lot.

But that’s not really enough to declare that the new Yankee Stadium is not Coors Field east on steroids. It could’ve been bad pitching. It could’ve been good hitting. It could’ve been a combination of the 2. Perhaps it was just a fluke.

Now, if the next series has similar results then we might be on to something. And if there is something going on there, expect Alex Rodriguez to have a huge smile on his face every single day. He’ll hit 50 homers even with the games he’s missed so far this season.

But the Yankees pitching staff won’t be quite so happy. And neither will the rest of the Yankees. For once they have a great pitching staff (assuming Wang can at least cut his 34 ERA by 75% or so) and now they might be in a hitter’s ball park. But we will see. And that seeing will start tonight when the Yanks take on Oakland.

Meanwhile the Florida Marlins finally lost their 2nd game of the season. But they still lead the AL East by 4.5 games. The Marlins actually got hammered by the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-0. Let’s not forget that the majority of the Marlins wins have been against the Washington Nationals. So, they haven’t proven too much yet. It will be worth keeping an eye on them as they play against Pittsburgh and then move on to play 2 huge division rivals – Philadelphia and the New York Mets.
