NCAA: The Favorites in the Final Four

The Final Four teams in the Tournament are North Carolina, Connecticut, Michigan State, and Villanova. Though Michigan State and Villanova are both hot teams, the odds are that Connecticut and North Carolina will wind-up in the Finals. Let’s face it: These are easily the two best teams. And I think North Carolina is actually quite a bit better than Connecticut. In any other year, UConn would be an easy team to take in the Finals. And I think ‘Nova and Michigan State are good enough to be National Champions. But this is a special year.
In this year, all of these teams are really good. Will this equal great games? I hope so but I’m not so sure.
The first game of Saturday night will be Michigan State and Connecticut. Michigan State just knocked off another Big East powerhouse in Louisville last Sunday. But Louisville is not UConn. And UConn is playing their best basketball of the season. Still, if Michigan State can hit their outside shows then they will have a good shot at winning.
In the second game it will be North Carolina and Villanova. UNC is just an awesome team. That’s obvious. With a healthy Ty Lawson this team is almost unbeatable. But this ‘Nova team is scrappy and athletic and just plain good. This game has to remind basketball fans of the Villanova upset over Georgetown back in 1985. But this North Carolina team is probably better than that Georgetown team, and I’m not sure this Nova team is as lucky as that 1985 Nova team.
The NCAA Tournament is perhaps the best sports event of the year. And Final Four Saturday is probably the best day of all. There are back-to-back games with great teams that are playing great basketball. These games in this Final Four feature four teams that are playing great basketball. Hold onto your seats, this should be a lot of fun.
