Game : Germany vs Liechtenstein
Competition : World Cup 2010 Qualifier
Date : Saturday, March 28, 2009
Venue : Zentralstadion, Leipzig, Germany
This is one game where you could earn plenty of money betting. Minnows Liechtenstein face Germany in a World Cup 2010 qualifier in Leipzig on Saturday evening, with Joachim Low’s side in the mood to give them a hiding after back to back friendly defeats against England and Norway.
The Germans lead Group 4 with 10 points from four games, four points ahead of second placed Russia, who have a game in hand. This is a great chance for Germany to prove a point ahead of their battle against Wales at the Millenium Stadium on April 1.
Piotr Trochowski is out due to injury. Striker Stefan Kiessling is also an injury doubt, which leaves Lukas Podolski and Patrick Helmes to fight it out for the right to partner Mario Gomez upfront. In goal, Low has already announced that Robert Enke will start. Miroslav Klose, Torsten Frings and Arne Freidrich are injured too.
Germany form- last five games- all competitions- Germany scorers in brackets
Germany 0-1 Norway
Germany 1-2 England ( Patrick Helmes)
Germany 1-0 Wales (Piotr Trochowski )
Germany 2-1 Russia ( Lukas Podolski, Michael Ballack)
Finland 3-3 Germany ( Miroslav Klose*3)
Liechtenstein have played Germany three times in the last two decades, and have conceded 23 goals. The scorelines have been hopelessly one sided- 9-2, 8-1 and 6-0.
However their performance in the 6-0 was somewhat admirable, because they let in only one goal in the first half.
Liechtenstein have not scored in WC 2010 qualifying yet, and have not found the back of the net in their last five games-including friendlies and qualifiers.
Liechtenstein 0-2 Iceland
Slovakia 4-0 Liechtenstein
Wales 2-0 Liechtenstein
Azerbaijan 0-0 Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein 0-6 Germany
There are two things for you to consider here:-
Germany will win. Absolutely no doubts about that- the press will blast them back home if they lose or even draw here. The question is how much they’ll score. Even in their slightly weakened state, the Germans could easily score five.
Can Liechtenstein score? Unfortunately, even with the likes of Frick and Stocklasa in there, I don’t see them scoring.
Verdict:- Germany 5-0 Liechtenstein ( Mario Gomez*2, Lukas Podolski, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Ballack)
